Divorce and the Holidays – Time to Detox

As the holidays approach, there may be some stress about your new life circumstances. You may wish that you had someone special to share the holidays with, or maybe you have more alone time than you would prefer. Regardless of your situation, you can survive the holiday and have a good time.

Our advice? Make deliberate plans to take advantage of the new opportunities before you.

Here are three tips to setting your holiday right

  • Plan Ahead Don’t wait until Christmas Eve, when you’re sitting alone waiting for the phone to ring, to make your holidays plans. Think about your ideal blend of socializing and solitude and fill your calendar with events that will make you feel happy, rather than feeling obligated or stressed. Perhaps you’ll take a trip to get away from it all or throw a small pot-luck with some of your dearest friends. Make a plan now so that you have the opportunity to fully enjoy the holiday ahead.
  • Create your own memories. Instead of thinking about what you don’t have, be proactive and make this a holiday season to remember with activities you enjoy. Now’s the time to research and rediscover what makes the season special for you. Your life is still ongoing and you have a wealth of opportunities to build new and happy memories.
  • Volunteer to help those in need. It’s a cliché for a reason: Helping others during the holidays will remind you of all the reasons you have to be grateful. Whether it’s for your health, wealth or simply a roof over your head, serving others will remind you that even though things may not be ideal, you still have many blessings in your life this holiday season.
